I couldn’t finish it. I got half way through and just stopped. It is so boring. I was waiting for it to speed up and be as great as everyone claimed but it was bad. I had a hard time following the story sometimes and the overall nature of the characters and their culture was..
Wonderful story similar to wuxia novels but much more original (at least from the few generic ones I’ve read). Narrator has distinctive voices for all characters and performed them all very well.
This was a really nice book. It was well narrated and had a very quick pace. The world is described so nicely, plenty of detail without being over done. I am glad I purchased all the books in this series. I cannot wait to begin the second one.

Well written and the story began with promise – story is interesting and characters were developing – but half way through the focus became on weapons, skills, fighting, little character development. Not interesting enough for me to continue the series. Like the narration but think it was too fast. Tried decreasing speed but then intonations..

I probably would enjoy reading this book but I can’t get in to the audiobook because the performer speeds though it so fast. He sounds like he is speed reading a term paper to the class so it isn’t believable and very hard to keep up. It’s sad because the story seems interesting.

I’ve read/listened to dozens of fantasy novels. While I can’t quite yet place Wight in the same league as a Brandon Sanderson, it’s still very exciting–and somewhat rare–to discover an author I can compare favorably with Brent Weeks, Joe Abercrombie, Michael Sullivan, Edward Robertson, etc. I don’t think anyone who enjoys these authors’ works will..

Another reviewer used this analogy, and it’s spot on! The characters have no depth and most are transient in nature. Several readers stated the subsequent books are “even better” , so since they are only $5 right now I’ll purchase the next one for a future easy listen.
