The story could be good, however, it is derailed by too much technical explanations for his magic skills. Too much like a video game for me.

I picked this up to fill the time waiting for a book release in a series I follow. I usually avoid buying books that don’t have many reviews (for new to me authors) but I love Phil Thron’s narration so I took a chance. I enjoyed it so I’ll be getting the next book.
I’m glad favorite author Franklin Horton turned me into Bobby! I’ll be digging into all his series.

interesting magic system, but the way it’s written is not great in my opinion, too much internal dialog explaining things that don’t need to be explained in that way with that much angst.
I guess that’s the last book in the series I would have loved to have seen more books, would have answered did zed find Valhalla maybe the author will let us know
Exceptionally well done and maybe one of the best narrations I’ve heard.

Phil Thron gives a performance for the ages. It was expert narration as well as excellent characterization of Charlie’s documented dialogue, bordering on method acting. This honest biography paints the brilliant, but also flawed aspects of this world renowned creative genius. Yet again we see that extremism in high positions of political power leads to attacks on people which are ridiculous and cruel. Alas .. We’re seeing it today!

Many logical inconsistencies during combat scenes spoiled most of the major climax scenes for me. Ex getting staggered from a ground stomp while standing off the ground etc. Multiple 15 min sections of reading entire stat blocks after minor changes also ruined the flow.
