When the Shooting Stopped Barrett Tillman A very interesting perspective on the closing of the war in the Pacific. The author provided uniquely detailed descriptions of actions of servicemen of all levels, and events I have not read in other accounts. Definitely worth the read for those interested in WWII.

I loved the story and it’s narrator. I’d known only a few anecdotes. I also recommend seeing the documentary Making Montgomery Clift to sort out some of the distortions of his life as contrived by prior biographers. This book steers clear of most of those.

Having spent six month at a time on a ship with 600+ people I was able to avoid those that made me understand the motivations for homicide. Being stuck for 8 years with about 20 that decreases to 7 due to the hazards of space could easily let me see how people could so quickly..
