A good story about SHTF. Made my nights at work go by quickly. The characters are realistic. Franklin Horton has a good collection of books that intertwine. I like the way unexpected characters do what you don’t expect of them. If you need something engaging to pass the time his books are great for that.

The author somehow manages to weave fantastic fiction with practical reality. His knowledge of military tactics, weapons, and battlefield management is impressive. He avoids hackneyed cliches and predictable plot lines; and his characters are sympathetic and complex. Of course, Mr. Pierce’s narrative virtuosity is the cherry on top.
