I almost couldn’t finish this book… I felt so weird burning the whole time thinking it would get better but nope it was a book humanizing grooming and pedophelia
I did not finish this- the “love story” is pedophilia. Period. As soon as I got to “that part” in the book I immediately went to find reviews as I thought this must be a mistake. I wish I would have read them prior as I would. It have even started it.
I had mixed feelings on the “love story” but there were so so many good parts and some of it just sad. But- overall great!
Why the heck is no one talking about this shocking book? It would be an interesting book club book. The relationship begins when the girl is 8, and the two are “instantly drawn to each other.” They date and when the girl is 13 and he is in his 20’s…at times this was very hard..
Who knew about this tragic historical event?! Thanks to Ms. Sepatys for bringing it to light with her fiction. The narrators’ readings were of varying quality. Florian, Albert, and Emilia were effective, but Joana’s narrator sounded like she had a cold; her voice was very nasally through most, but oddly not all, of her delivery…

Preparing for a roadtrip I needed a new series. Reading the storylines I was so sure I’d love this one that I purchased 4 of the titles. I’m throwing in the towel midway through book 2. The main character is an absolute idiot and makes the most ridiculous choices.
There is nothing wonderful about this book. I only kept listening to see what the author would do. But this book is about a grown man grooming a child since she was 8. This book fully supports the pedophile character trying to normalize that.
I have to start out by saying I generally dislike media that covers sexuality of young teens. It’s often feels like exploitation for the sake of entertainment.
