Reminiscent of the Hornblower, Heinlein and Andrew Norton stories I grew up on. The narrator sounds like Jack Webb from Dragnet to boot. I got the first one cheap on sale but will probably pay a credit for the next. They are not very long, about 6-7 hours per book. This one has several chapters..

The characters in this book are very well realized, with backgrounds and realistic motivations. The storyline starts off very grounded in reality, but still very interesting. Gradually, though, things happen that make you realize there is more going on than you expected, until by the end things become quite fantastic. There isn’t any big explanation..
