The story is good; I love the mix of sci-fi and magic and the storytelling overall is decent. It does lack in making me care a ton about the characters, partially on the narrator but yeah no crazy character depth.

Story goes nowhere started out great but I still have 17 hours left and it became torture to listen to.
Review from The Ministry for the Future →
Started reading after a recommendation from a friend who said it’s a great WW3 from climate change book. The heatwave in India is a great start very descriptive and well read then it just ends you lose track of characters and nothing ever comes of it. If you’re looking for a military thriller this isn’t..
It’s skippable
Review from Zee Locked In →
I suppose the performance is pretty good. The mcs obsession with every single female in the game is either disgusting creepy or stupid, depending on the chapter. if I could remove every time he interacts with a female but then I could also say that about the story. stat block chart reading isn’t done well..
The main characters are always so clueless. They never make the leap in logic that is clearly and visibly there. It’s been the same for 7 books. At some point context clues have to come into play in their minds. It’s slightly frustrating. The story other than their inability to make logical leaps is enjoyable.
An interesting listen with a different take on magic, technology, and alien society. Take a just slightly ahead modern era man, drop him into a new galaxy where slavery and magic run the world’s. Then sit back and watch him try to shovel his way out. The biggest negative of the book was the narrator..
