what a refreshing, powerful story! a slow build up with an impactful payoff. the narrator was great as well. I highly recommend this book!

I really wanted to like this book. It takes place in my hometown, and the descriptions of the area are very accurate. However, unfortunately, it reads a little bit like a fever dream. Thin characters, too many plots, half fleshed out storylines, weird connections. Just didn’t at all feel believable.
What started as a good story and idea was stretched far beyond its natural course. It would take a lot more suspension of disbelief than reasonable to get through to the end. It’s a lot like a tv series with a good first season that has been renewed way too many times and the writers..
I knew nothing about this book when I got it, and was a little unprepared how gorey, sad, and dark this would be. I almost gave up on it, but the end made me rethink my own shortcomings as a person, and helped me appreciate a different cultural perspective about sacrifice, family, bloodlines, and marriage.
