Too much Deus ex Machina. Unrealistic characters whose skill development more closely mirrored a Dungeons & Dragons game than the months of training that would realistically be required. The storyline is good . I did return this book without finishing it . I found it too wordy , every detail ,every action and too much of what the characters say is explained . I don’t know how old this author is but the writing passes for a high school student .

Everything has to be explained to a person who has gaming knowledge. Bad people lie and do bad things and look bad people lie and do even worse things WOW how could they do this to me/us they’re not nice THIS SUCKS BECAUSE STUPIDITY AND IGNORANCE ARE NOT GOOD PLOTS

This book will get your hopes up for a good series. If you read them all you will be disappointed. Better not even to start. The books just go downhill from here. What a waste of a good premise.
