I am so glad that I discovered this listen. What a great start to a series!!

This book is just under 15 hours but it is a well-spent 15 hours. This is a well-written sci-fi thriller with angry good guys, really smarmy bad guys, some seriously intelligent AI’s, and a huge mystery that has yet to be completely solved.

Barcus is the guy “who fell.” His struggle to deal with the deaths of his crewmates and survive is the bulk of this listen. I loved the investigative reports that preceded each chapter. It gave me a different perspective on the events unfolding. That was genius!

Barcus meets Po on his quest. I find it curious that much of what Po experienced in this world was similar to that of American slaves. Hers was a hard and submissive life with really overpowering “keepers.” That’s an interesting cadence for a sci-fi read.

The narrator was EXCELLENT! Tell’s performance of the two main characters was really good but when you combine that performance with four very distinct AI voices – one of them British – well, that’s when the slow clapping begins.

The ending was seriously off-the-hook “no that did not just happen!” Bring on book two!
