Wow! I didn’t realize how heavy this book was or I never would have picked it. (I don’t read very sad books because I can’t shake the feeling of it for days.) Having said that, it was an absolutely wonderful story. Very impactful. I wept through nearly the whole book.

A woman loses her husband to cancer (which is not detailed – it’s just how he died), but before she has a chance to slip into deep depression, she watches a video he made for her. That video gives her encouragement to take one step forward without him. And on and on, until he’s spiritually held her hand through the darkness and back into the light. She meets another man a year later, at a time when she’s finally ready to let go, with the help of her husband (through pre-recorded videos.) Thankfully, it ends with an HEA, but not before the author breaks your heart into a million pieces and glues them back together with the boundless love of a devoted husband.

I loved the story, and I’m glad I went in blind because it was so worth the tears!

The audiobook narrator was good. Her voice held a solemn tone that suited the bulk of the story, but I was hoping for a more upbeat feeling for the happy ending. Unfortunately, she did not perform the accent in the scene with a Scottish couple, so they sounded kind of southern country-ish instead.
