This story read like an auto/biography! The unlikely main characters, Wavy and Jesse, are very “REAL” as Wavy says towards the end of the book.
It’s a tragic family dynamic that brings the two together, though they are years apart in age, not to mention all the reasons they shouldn’t be together. The obstacles they must hurdle are huge, but somehow the couple manages.
The narrator does an excellent job with the range and variety of voices, especially the young children. Her interpretation of the thought and dialogue is excellent. She seemed to truly understand the the author’s intent and allowed for voice adaptations as the characters changed and grew older throughout the story.
Though I was a little put off by the extreme age difference of the hero and heroine, and some graffic sex, I found myself staying up into the wee hours because I didn’t want to go to sleep anticipating what was going to happen next.
