I’ve actually never seen Firefly, but this book and the author’s note made me really want to. The narrator’s excellent character representation and style, combined with the author’s rich world and depth of the people in it, made for an incredibly immersive, thrilling and heart warming listen.
It is rare for an audiobook to paint such vivid images of places and people in my visual mind, but I really feel like I’ve been a mute member of the crew for the month it took to listen through, as if I had been the spaceship itself. Being a sailor myself, and having listened to this book under starry nights at sea, the Black Ocean stole a piece of my heart just as the Blue Ocean did many years ago.
