I have no idea why some recording studios insist on adding background music (or sound effects) to audio books. It’s like they think the performance is so weak it needs assistance.

On that note , This book has the worst background music and placement I’ve ever heard !
Occasionally, if done well, the background music will match the theme of the content (see Looney tunes, Flintstones, Family Guy, soap operas from the ’80s , silent films..)

I have no idea what the sound editor was thinking. It’s almost like he downloaded a free background music app and just started assigning random sound bites to different chapters, without listening to what the voice actors had already recorded.
Some of the musical inserts sounded like they were written for the porn parody of Austin Powers, but didn’t make the cut, others weren’t even that good. Other times the music sounded like the sound director bought a keyboard from Walmart and took some music lessons on YouTube for about 20 minutes, and recorded it.

At no point did the music ever match up with what was going on in the story.

There was an action sequence near the beginning, the background music sounded like something you’d hear at a circus while the clowns were performing. I’m not exaggerating.

I liked the story but the music was almost distracting enough for me to return this book before I finished it ( and it was free).

SOUND BOOTH, Why and how did this ever get approved for the final cut ?
Seriously ! did somebody lose a bet ? or did the director have a busy week and just sign off before listening to the final product ?

If the director and sound editor are hearing impaired, I’ll retract my criticism.
If not, there must either be nepotism or blackmail involved . That’s the only reason I can think of for their continued employment.
