On the plus side, this 4 pack offers four 6 hour stories in theBlack Ocean universe.
Unfortunately, the majority of this pack is about Esper and Kubu. Without the rest of the Mobius crew to add variety and counterpoint to Esper’s uptight, holier than thou personality, this listen was a slog. Yes, there are some cameos, but not enough to liven things up.
In fact, there were a lot of story elements that were mere ghosts of the things I liked about the main series. Monster sized Kubu was hardly present in this pack. Big magical effects were largely absent (not to mention Mort being largely absent- I miss that curmudgeon). The sly cons, Roddy’s beer jokes, Tany’s acidic sassafras… hmm, guess I just figured out why this was such a slog… missing all the great ingredients from the original recipe.
