Ha ha, I almost didn’t get this book because of the negative reviews. I did it anyways and I am glad I did. First, it is a good story. It’s not the best story I have heard but it kept my attention. I finished it in 4 days, two days of driving and it kept me awake. It’s very hard to find a good story today, I have over 300 audiobooks and this as far as the story goes would be in the top 10 to 20%. The mechanics of telling it were a little awkward at times but it kept my attention. Cussing was very limited, maybe just a handful of F*** for all 21 hours. Kevin Pierce is always AWESOME! Sarah Morsey plays the deceased grandmother so when Joe reads a letter it is her voice.

This is about an ordinary guy Joe who inherits money and land from his grandmother and then an EMP causes society to collapse. It has great struggles, heroes, villains, and love stories mixed in.

About the negative reviews. Let’s face it, people, there is evil in the world, and if or when the restraint of laws and enforcement collapse, the sky is the limit to the evil that will be unleashed. Hitler did what he wanted to the Jews because no one stopped him, he had little to no restraint. Just think of a world with law and order one day and a free-for-all the next. So, a 12 to 13-year-old girl likes a boy older than her? Go back in history and this was not uncommon. I think the author handled this okay. You can’t apply today’s laws and norms to a world full of chaos. Also, in this world of chaos men and women need each other and depend on each other and their communities. The book has men protecting women and women wanting protection but also some of the main women in the book are just as capable of defending and fighting as the men. I don’t see the problem but I am from an older generation, snowflakes and other like-minded people will probably hate this book.
