I’m on a litRPG kick at the moment, and this popped up as a recommended title. I can only recall one story that has caused me to cringe anywhere near as much as Life Reset has, Super Sales on Super Heroes. The whole thing felt like it was written for an English class. From bland explanations of RPG mechanics, that would have been more at home in a glossary to the manic pixie dream girl, you’ll find tropes aplenty between these pages. The forced fixation on sexualization was reminiscent of middle to highschool lunch conversations among kids who really didn’t know what they were talking about. While on the topic of social interaction, I don’t think I’ve ever met someone who speaks the way that the human players do in this book. It hurt me to listen to some of these conversations acted out.

After seeing the positive reviews, I felt that the whole experience was akin to showing up to a concert and being told that the main act could no longer make it. As the performance carried on, I constantly wondered if I should leave, or stay to support the scene. While I did stick it out, I couldn’t help but feel as though I should have just spent my time getting into anything else, rather than waiting for any of these characters to become likeable.
