It seems Lindon’s purpose in the novel is to be present when events happen. He does not make any meaningful decisions, he just wanders from fight to poorly written fight and prevails without any risk of him failing. Another book, another level-up. Repeat ad-nauseum.

The sci-fi elements are some of the more interesting bits of story, but they work against what little story there is, reminding us again that Lindon is destined to succeed. We already know from Unsouled that that deus ex machina is in effect.

I can’t tolerate another 10 books of info-dump world building with no real story besides the characters fighting to gain more power. It’s the author’s job to make me care, and he has failed completely.
