Yes, there is a scene in the book that is gross and gratuitous. I’ve got no problem with gross and gratuitous, though.
My problem is with the story. It’s poorly written, preachy, churlish, The characters are poorly developed, and the female characters were so obviously written by a man who does not understand women. I couldn’t make myself care about any of the characters, and couldn’t manage to care about the town. I really tried.
Disappointment.
