This is only 3/4 of a story. You never find out who is picking on the protagonist, or why. It seems like someone is just out to screw the guy, no matter what he does, and they are willing to spend the lives hundreds of people and what must be millions of dollars into ruining this guy’s life, and we never learn why. Even the protagonist is perplexed by this at the end of the story.
Even after the organization opposing him is destroyed, we still do not know who the mastermind was, unless it’s the guy who dies at the end before we get his back story our even his name?
I was really enjoying this book most if the way thru, then it got unbearably dark, then the ending landed with a terrible thud, at least in my opinion.
