The case was interesting (and maddening) and the narration fine, but it seemed to go on and on with details that weren’t pertinent to the case. There were a lot of random chapters of how people tangential to the case we’re feeling/their scripture for the moment, which didn’t advance the story in any way. For example, there were many chapters of the wife writing in her journal, which would have been fine, but all it entailed was the wife complaining that she didn’t understand God’s abandonment of her and her family and that she didn’t understand how anyone could accuse her husband of these crimes. This was fine once, but there were 4 or 5 chapters of this.

As a side note, this case is a blaring example of why we need sex ed in schools (or at the very least to teach young people how their bodies work). Part of the reason he got away with this for so long because the girls and women didn’t understand their own bodies/how sex worked enough to fully grasp what was being done to them until after they married and realized their marital bed felt similar to their pelvic exams.
