I am completely confused by all the high reviews for this book. I’ll admit first that this was my first RPGLit book. I was looking for something light, funny and in the fantasy genre and came across this. It has little no funny parts, just a few crude/sick comments that in now way are hugely hilarious or funny. It’s immature at most.
Regarding the story itself, I am still confused what the story actually is here? There’s seriously nothing to spoil, as the plot is simply about a mimic demon (dungeon chest) that outgrows its dungeon, conjures another demon, then at the very end another…all along the way describing each battle with HP, Mana and far too many facts about leveling up, etc. It goes on and on about points and levels to the point where you’re skipping ahead to get past it all the time. If you enjoy this sort of thing, with little to no plot development than maybe this is for you.
The writing isn’t great either, as the author reiterates the same things over and over. As others have said, the author also has little respect for women, as they primarily play a sexual objects with psychotic personalities in the book. He’ll repeated go over their chest size and figures, then go on about how they get off being killed and eaten by the Chest/Mimic. It’s like a 15 year old tried to write a NC-17 book. Just poorly done overall. Going to be the first book I return to Audible and will likely stay away from this genre going forward.
About the only thing I’ll say was good was the narrator, as he does a variety of voices well. He just needs a better author to read from.
