I’ve never tried Price’s work before, although I admit I’ve been curious. I tend to lean more towards paranormal than science fiction, but I’m always willing to try something new. Plus…Joel Leslie, enough said. I’m pretty sure I would listen to Joel Leslie read the dictionary and consider it a good use of my time. When I received this audiobook from Ms. Price, she mentioned how the story came into existence although it didn’t make much sense at the time. Looking back, what occurred from the writing prompts “wedding” and “utopia” was far more than I could have ever imagined. I like shorter audiobooks (less than 6 hours) and that means an author has to really keep me engaged and make the story pop and sizzle in a limited amount of time. This far exceeded what I expected. I almost feel like the romantic elements between Lee and Roman were the background of the story and that most of it centered around Lee realizing just what kind of society he was born into. However, the reason Lee started paying attention was because of Roman, so everything tied together well. I also openly admit that halfway through the story, I was sure there was no way Ms. Price could develop it into even a HFN. How the ending came about just proved how immensely gifted a writer she really is. Bravo!

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
