This is the story of Alec, who is a cop in NYC, who was born in Scotland, and meets his fated mate Cronin during a crazy foot chase involving some bad guy and good guy vampires. Thus Alec is introduced into a world he was born into, a world he was fated to be a part of, but didn’t know anything about til Cronin literally leaped into the picture. Although they are fated mates, there is not insta love, although attraction is pretty instant. Cronin, who is a 1000 year old scottish vampire discovers that one of his 2 oldest friends, Eiji, has been watching over Alec, and Alec’s father Kole since they were children, knowing that Alec would one day be Cronin’s fated mate.
The action part starts right away, with Cronin, Alec, Eiji, Jodis, Eleanor, and others learning of an evil vampire and her coven in Egypt who are intent on raising the long dead mummies of the ancient egyptian kings to kill all vampires and “conquer the world”, so they immediately start working on a plan to “save the world”. Its a fun fast paced read, with a humorous flavor along with the serious, Alec and Cronin are both very likeable MC’s and the supporting cast is interesting also.
Of course Joel Leslie is BRILLIANT as a narrator, every character having a unique and distinct voice.
I will definitely go on to listen to book 2.
