standard trope of societal collapse, and the struggle to survive. characters are boring, the story was boring and derivative. the main characteristic of two of the main characters is their Irish background. you would think the chosen narrator would have a decent accent to pull out for them, yet no luck. the book reads like an alt right apocalypse survivors fantasy where he gets to show how much better and smarter he is than everyone else. the main characters refer to themselves as the sheepdogs compared to the rest of the “sheep”.
I read the second book to see if anything interesting happened but no luck. don’t bother starting this series, if you like military fiction try the expeditionary force by Craig alanson.
