The author might be a Proud Boy or some other closeted, dog-whistling white supremacist. In a story that spans multiple regions of the USA, the only time he explicitly talks about people of Black, Latinx, or Middle Eastern backgrounds is when he needs gangsters, terrorists, looters, and other baddies. There’s also a bit much of the whole “damsel in distress” trope, so he’s rather chauvinist as well.

And he also has DC gets nuked by the French. What?

I wanted to like this book, and it did try to be less cliche about the zombies and the geopolitics, but it still falls short on those sides of things. I’ll be returning it for a refund, and don’t plan on trying any of its sequels.
