This book is the literary equivalent of a child’s drawing. First of all, it is UNBELIEVABLY REPETITIVE. Reading is more passive than playing an RPG, which is what this genre is supposed to be (LitRPG). Therefore, you should NOT incorporate gameplay loops that are too boring for video-games into your main plot!! This thing seriously repeats itself more than a Wings’ song.

This book is comprised of two main loops. MC rolls into town, meets skeptical good guys, MC proves himself, one good guy doesn’t like him, MC preaches him out of town, and everyone claps. Then MC hears about bad guy, “bad man is murderer, muh killed my wife, muh hurtin and rapin on the women folk, muh,” MC goes out with locals, kill bad guy, rescue prisoners, MC tortures and kills collaborators, and everyone LITERALLY F*CKING CLAPS AND CHEERS EVERY SINGLE TIME. Repeat loops 1 and 2 six to twelve time. Bing bang boom, you’ve just sh*t out a Dave Willmarth book.

Also Andrea Parsneau is a truly terrible narrator in this book, and I found myself cringing every time I heard her voice.
