the book itself starts with your typical grumpy teenager who’s sent over to help her uncle down south with his circus. all she hopes is that she’ll send her back….until she realized hope is futile and she’s not leaving….

so here’s the deal. I loathe narrators like Sarah Puckett here who literally make every word In a book sultry. When done in the wrong environment during a scene, it ends up making the characters sound dull, shallow, and self-entitled/whiney. The whole sultry voice thing DOES have a place and Puckett probably does it well in romantic scenes, but otherwise, it is just the way wrong one. DNf’ed AT 20% because I couldn’t stand the narration. the story itself is unique!
