I don’t know if I’m totally pissed off that Elvis, the king of thieves whose primary songs sent the usually Black songwriters into a completely humiliating retirement full of suffering and loss, is such a prominent part of this story along with his home Graceland OR happy that something I hadn’t thought of, like what happens at a Famous Idolatrous Amusement, has such a horrific ending. Beck loses 1 of my favorite characters because of the decision of a woman who wanted to worship at the Altar to Elvis, a normally extremely smart woman, refused to believe what she was seeing, the devastation and danger. SMH!! If it wasn’t for who the author-narrator team is, I’d have shut this down without going any further. 🤦🏾😤This story has soooo many twists and turns that I’m glad I hung in there. I have the next book already so hopefully that was it on the Elvis ride.
