What a story! I went into this thinking, here we go, another motorcycle club romance. But what I got to listen to is nothing of what I expected. Christine Michelle has put integrated so much into this, making it have depth and realism. Ever comes to live with her dad when she is 8. Her father is part of a motorcycle club and her unexpected arrival due to a one night stand leaves her acceptance by the brothers difficult. But she is only a child! Fast forward 8 years and she is humiliated by someone she considered to be a friend, not backed by her brother or “family” and her life is destroyed. For an adult this would be difficult, but for a teenager, this is nothing short of horrific. Christine Michelle masterfully writes this story as we see Ever live through her life. It’s written with care, yet does not shelter the outcomes. She adds great characters, like Declan as he helps rebuild life, Mama Luz, and the various club members that give us the flavor of brotherhood. It builds up, tears at your heart and helps you too to heal as you listen.
To pull off a story like this, the narration has to be spot on. The choice of Sarah Puckett and DC Cole is perfect. Puckett brings Ever to life. Her ability to make a character full of emotion just flows so easily, but as a listener, draws you in and makes you feel. This story had so many different emotions, and Puckett drove them all home. DC Cole as Declan gave us that strong male, full of hope and love. His voice carried the strength and warmth with Ever, and in the next breath give the sign of a leader with his commanding tone with his MC brothers. I loved this team, and hope they continue with the next in the series.
