Let’s start with the positives, shall we?
Positives: The main and supporting characters are mainly sea creatures. It has an interesting concept. The main protagonist is interesting, plucky, has a great goal, and lucky as hell.
Negatives: Everything seems to be a farce or play on some other show, book, song, etc. For example, the hypno frog, sir crabbies theme, Mighty Morphin Underwater Rangers, etc. I love when someone gets creative with popular fiction and culture references, but dial it back.
There’s WAY to much filler. Every chapter opener has some excerpt from some time or another that doesn’t (in most cases) add to the story as a whole. The author also seems to like drilling the stats of Sir Crabby into our brains. Every time (almost) he levels up we get to hear his ENTIRE character sheet AGAIN, or if he preforms a skill action. The author even goes as far as to have two chapters after the EPILOGUE to go over Sir Crabbies stats in minute detail. Not needed…promise. Overall, it would be a great book if they focused more on the story and progressing it steadily. I won’t be continuing this series.
