I’ll admit to being hesitant to pick this one up after the lackluster third book in this series. But solid reviews and a lack of new reading material caused me to give it a shot.

Big step up from book three and a return to what made books one and two enjoyable.

First off we are back in Goblin’s Gorge, I thought that moving the center of action was a bad idea and a return to the Gorge was most welcome. A renewed emphasis on town building was sorely needed.

The author did a credible job of picking up the story after the jarring conclusion to the third book. The MC’s motivation seems reasonable and the world makes sense.

The main issues I had with the book were fairly minor: I thought the resources handed to Oren on his return were a bit on the extreme side and I didn’t care for how overpowered his main antagonist was (for instance he seems immune to the death debuff).
