This is a pre-apocalyptic story about entitled residents of a Malibu, California gated community, waiting for the hordes of leftists with torches and pitchforks to come for them and their stuff. The characters are incredibly unlikeable. The political message is so ridiculously current that it lacks any perspective that comes from the passage of time and feels like propaganda for a certain political party if not a specific candidate. The political messaging is so obvious and immature that it reads (listens) like an audio cartoon. The focus on guns and weaponry sounds like a middle school bully’s fantasy. I finished the book because I hoped that this was really all satire, but sadly, the author seems to think he’s being serious. Finally, the book ends abruptly without any closure to the story – more like a chapter in a real book than a book in itself. I can only imagine where this series is going – I won’t be going there with him.
