I’m giving three stars because despite how annoyed I was with the main character and the narration of her, I finished listening to the entire book, so there must’ve been something that kept drawing me in. Can’t quite put my finger on it except that I really wanted to see how both of the leading female characters ended up.

That said, I found the story overall to be incredibly depressing. To avoid a spoiler alert I won’t go into too much detail, but both of the main female characters are going through or have gone through some of the most devastating experiences that a woman can. This was a bit heavy for a fiction novel, and not the best depiction of women. I found the main character, Heidi, to be a pathetic, neurotic, bleeding heart, spineless weakling. Couldn’t stand her. And the narration of her was incredibly annoying. The narrator speaks in soft, pastel tones and overly annunciates nearly every word. The way she dragged out the word “breasts” every time she said it made me want to gag. There’s also a huge overuse of the word “baby”. I just could not stand the Heidi character, or her narrator. However, the rest of the characters were fine and well narrated.

I can’t say whether I would recommend this book or not. It did hold my interest as far as wanting to know the full story, but part of me wishes I’d never even started it. It just dragged on for too long to get to the point and again, the entire Heidi character was disgusting.
