Too many oddities

I’m not sure about this one. The storyline seems like it could be good but…..

Does nearly EVERY chapter have to beat you over the head with foreshadowing at the end? Seriously I’m only on book two and so many times I’ve heard something like “if only I knew how much I would regret that.”

And then there’s oddly changing character motives and actions. For instance one goes from having the goal of becoming a court magician to suddenly having some shadow motive involving kidnapping one of the MCs that is untold despite having been written in the characters POV both times. This happens multiple times.

Combine this with odd things like residents of the vampire world referring to their “supernatural sky”. If it is all you know, it wouldn’t be supernatural?

Many things like this take away from what could have been a great storyline.
