When my adult son told me he wanted to listen to this on Audible on a road trip I was apprehensive because the title seemed kinda dumb but pretty much from the start I was hooked. The book is funny, fast paced and the author did a stellar job of getting you invested in the characters so that you HAD to know what happens next. Did I mention it’s funny? I literally laughed out loud so many times that I had to go into the other room to read it because I was disturbing my husbands tv show.

AND the Audible is PRICELESS. I mean it, get the first book on Audible and start there if you can because it really makes you feel like you can see these characters and you NEED and hearing them talk to each other, it really sets the tone and you get so much more from the book when you hear Carl say “goddammit Donut” hahaha!!! The performance is absolutely AWESOME! Plus, I have to say it, you WILL laugh even more. What a great story! Hats off to you, Matt.

NOTE TO READERS WHO NORMALLY DO NOT READ THIS TYPE OF GENRE:

The title originally turned me off because it sounded like a teenagers book but now I understand it and I am hooked! I don’t normally read this type of book at all, I read epic fantasies and paranormal books and suspense mystery types but I have to say I’m thoroughly addicted to Dungeon Crawler Carl and I absolutely love Donut.

DO NOT pass this book by. Give it a try, I PROMISE you will enjoy it! The first book is a fast read and you will want to read the next and the next and the next.

Also the only reason I did NOT give it five stars is because I’m very stingy with my ratings and reserve those for books that I REALLY love and read over and over. This rating MAY change as the series goes on.

NOTE TO AUTHOR: it would be SUPER HELPFUL if you put in an index of terms used in the beginning or end of each book to explain words used and maybe ALSO a character reference. It took me half the book to figure out a “mob” wasn’t multiple people and it would be really useful to reference both this and a list of the characters and important types of monsters in each book as this can get quite confusing when some things are described then don’t circle back for many chapters.
