This book delivers all the expected things (stories about intense and interesting cases etc) but it also adds perspective and insights gained over an exhausting lifetime of experience. The idea that death is always potentially so close to all of us but we don’t see it or don’t think about it, that is an idea I found fascinating. He speaks of experiential accumulated trauma over years of unfinished, unprocessed tragedies (and some triumphs) and the personal toll it took on him. Excellent writing.
