Review of Audible version. This is a tedious listen. I agree with the author’s case. In terms of a story, though, it’s a tedious, almost tortuous listening experience. Even as a read story, I wouldn’t have enjoyed it but at least I could have paged past the most boring parts. Listening doesn’t offer that as easily. It has moments that are interesting, even brilliant.

From a sound perspective, the narrators are all over the map in terms of their skills and ability to read the material and maintain their roles. Much of the reading sounds forced, not natural. I was only interested in a few characters.

The book would’ve benefited from comprehensive editing focusing on action and character development. I only cared about a couple of characters. There are quite a few essays thrown in along the way. This could have been a long memo. “Hey, listen, if we don’t do something serious and work together to create a sustainable future, we will all go through deep freezes and heat waves. We can come at things from different viewpoints and approaches, we can debate the pluses and minuses of each approach, but we have to do something, and we cannot dally.” There. That’s my review of this book.
