I am a voracious post apocalyptic genre reader who has not once bought nor finished a book having anything to do with a Zombie type character. I purchased this book before even reading the description because this author is a favorite.
Once I started the book, I paused because of my concern for some of the main characters. I am one of those readers that is prey intense and gets all emotionally invested in really well developed characters. The twin aspect intrigued me, one being deaf only enthralled me more. Including a K-9 officer and other animals had me pacing and flipping pages at an alarming rate. I couldn’t not pick it back up. The Veteran scene had me bawling my eyes out and then walking into work looking like someone I loved died.
This book grabbed me (albeit reluctantly) by the throat and sank it’s teeth into me until I sat in my car IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE in a freezing car just so I could finish it uninterrupted! I bought both the kindle version as well as the Audible because I also have a voice crush on Kevin Pierce (the narrator)!
Read it, listen to it and commiserate with me until book 2 releases! Yes, it is THAT good! Well done LLAKERS! Well done! I’m not sure I’ll read another zombie-esque book but this one DID NOT disappoint!
