Wow wow wow… I stumbled upon this book without having ever heard of it before, and next thing I know I’m so deeply and emotionally connected to these characters that I can feel it swirling in my stomach & chest. If you’ve gone through rougher things in your childhood, these characters will be relatable like no others. The main character of the story is so deeply relatable to me that walking through the story was like walking alongside a mirror of my childhood self – her emotions, her defenses, her rich inner monologue that no one else hears…
Parts of it can be uncomfortable, and left me wondering, “is this.. okay? should I be rooting for this right now?” and that was hard to reckon with at times. But as dark and difficult as things may get for the characters throughout the story, there is a happy ending to look forward to. It left me satisfied, teary eyed, and missing these characters in the way I miss my long-distance siblings. Highly recommend giving this one a listen!
