I think this might be the first time I’ve given this series anything less than 5 stars. The performance by SBT was as amazing as ever, but the story just fell flat. The first half of the book was a nonsensical set of short stories that bounced through time over a span of 2 years. There was no reason for it. Not to mention it leaves you asking some major questions. Like, the Box grew SO MUCH in the first year of it’s life and then practically nothing for the next 2 years after? It also did the story a disservice by introducting elements that the characters just pulled out of thin air and hand waved off by saying “oh yeah, remember a couple months ago? I got this power…” well, no, no we don’t remember! You skipped that story! Or the lead from the last book, with the “OTHER divine artifact” being so dangerous? Turns out to be nothing and gets 10 minutes of story where they just flitter away an entire book’s plot. This one was rough. The book had Zero direction and payoffs were denied. The first books were very small spans of time told in great detail. This one was a VERY large span of time, told with very little detail. Disappointing…
