I wish that each chapter had more of a name than just the chapter number so that it could remind me the subject of the chapter!
I’m still not positive what _The Elephant in the Brain_ really refers to, but all the unknown processes going on, kind of like “The Elephant in the Room” represents a big, purposely unseen, inconsistency.
We insist on kidding ourselves just to make our narrative what we want and what fits our perceived interests and desires. And we don’t recognize what’s really happening! I like to think that I, personally, am not as subject to that as some are, but I know that even for me, despite my attempts to see through the fogs presented by media and friends, I can’t avoid all of it! It’s a good book pointing out some of the traps and deceptions presented to all people, even those who try to circumvent them! In order to avoid them, you must be constantly vigilant and keep your eyes open, and even still, it really can’t be done. Staying aware of what’s happening is your only hope for survival – you may not be able to evade, but you can know what’s happening.
