This is more of loosely connected collection of short stories than a continuous coherent narrative. This wouldn’t be a problem if the stories were particularly interesting, but most of them are just the main character exploring his (or her depending on how far along you are in the story) mental hangups. Again, this wouldn’t be a problem if there was some character development, but Hildy is more or less the same at the end of the story as at the beginning. The best bits involved Hildy learning about the roles and deteriorating mind of the all-controlling central computer. With some thorough editing, this book could be a quarter of the length and tell a much better story.
