This is a pretty decent fantasy novel with an interesting take on Gods, magic and evil. I definitely think it could of been a little deeper and maybe a little darker or grittier. This is a lot of content being just under 30 hours and I found most of it enjoyable but it never really blew me away.

The narration by David Stifel could definitely be a big problem for some people. I think his normal narration voice is really not too bad and might give it 4 stars but his character voices just aren’t up to snuff. His female voices are pretty terrible and he has a tendency to make them whiny sounding and does the same with a lot of the male characters at times making them sound much younger than they are. His accents are very bad too, I don’t know if he was trying to do an Australian or British accent at the beginning of the first book where the characters kept saying “Mate” but it was really bad and almost made me want to stop listening but thankfully there isn’t really much more accent work in the book. I think I did grow more accustomed to his narration and I think he was much better by the last book but his character voices can definitely use some work.

The book has some interesting aspects and some twists that I didn’t really see coming that kept it pretty interesting. I don’t think this is s top tier fantasy series but it is pretty good YA fantasy. I would definitely listen to the sample and make sure that you will be able to deal with the narration as I know some people can be very sensitive to it.
