As such, I started midway through a running series which had me a bit worried. However the book worked well standalone.

It’s everything you would expect from a space rogue style story. A Deadpool in space sort of thing, though there’s no super regeneration. If you’re into that type of thing, it’s definitely worth a read. The author doesn’t worry too much about physics or realism, because that’s not necessary for this style of book. It’s just a good old ‘anti-hero vs the world taking out bad guys’ story.

The presentation can be a bit clipped or overly crisp at times, but it fits with the style of the book so it’s forgivable. The only thing that messed with me on the performance side that I don’t know if it was better in a written form was that there are parts that are silent or internal dialogue that it was hard to tell the difference in the audio book until after based on later context.

If I had been buying this book on my own, I likely would have passed do to the short length compared to the price, and it still seems a bit pricey for the length, but I’m definitely tempted to go pick the other up to complete the series.

TL;DR: A fun space brigand adventure that doesn’t worry too much about explaining space travel or science so it can just have fun being what it is.
