The concept is pretty good, and the full cast is great. The mimic is especially vibrantly acted out.
I could only get a few hours in because the writing is so poor. It felt jarringly written by modern writers; they said things in the narrative that no fantasy character would think or believe. It broke me out of the flow constantly. They even used lots of 2024 earth human vernacular; Not immersive. As lit-rpg goes, this one falls flat. Felt like a couple of kids were narrating a video game (I didn’t mind the use of actual game speak like gaining levels and “the system”). The main character was especially insufferable. Self-insert?
