When I was browsing for what to listen next, I was looking for a lighthearted angsty romance. This story is not that. When I read the summary for this, it was pretty much the opposite of what I was looking for. Looked to be heavy on the angst, some adult themes, potentially mature. But the narrator was a personal favorite of mine and he convinced me to sample the book. I was not disappointed.

At first, I was a little iffy on the story, but the writing was great and the scenes were quite moving. The story picked up quickly for me after that and I just couldn’t let it go. I didn’t care much for the wolfy side of this audiobook. I’m no convert after listening to this and I did cringe in a few places because of it, but it never overpowered the story for me. The rest of the story hooked me though. Some of the themes hit close to home and the ending was just masterful, even if I saw it coming a mile away.

Simply put, this audiobook is fantastic! The story was well-paced despite spanning a little over a decade, main characters are well-written and developed, and the side characters all felt like distinct individuals, not cardboard cutouts… well, most of them at least. Also, I gotta give a shout-out to my boy, Kirt Graves. I already loved him from his other performances, but this story just seemed to be written for him.
