This is only the second book I’ve read from Bentley Little (The Resort was first), and I feel I’m really catching my stride with his writing. The Store is an interesting and demented take on our country’s Walmart-complex and how far we’re willing to go for the lowest prices and convenience. At least on the surface. Under the creepy surface is a smart social study of community in a time of fear and struggle. Visually disturbing moments of pure shock, good characters and terrifying Night Managers round out what was indeed a very enjoyable story.
