I wish I had known about the scenes (in every story) of the sex acts. I am not very familiar with sex scenes in writing, I am happy that they were loving and consensual and were aimed at signaling a solid future relationship between the people in them, but I wish there had been a comment about their existence. I don’t generally read this type of material, preferring to skip those pages, but I find that difficult to do in an oral presentation. They were meant to be an integral part of the story, and I didn’t find them as unpleasant as others I have run across, but I would have preferred a heads-up.
I didn’t find the stories all that special, though I did find them well written and once or twice I hadn’t seen the ending or I was not able to guess the criminal.
I’ll go for well and intelligently written any day which is why I stuck through from beginning to end and may even listen some again.
I find it difficult to find writing that feels as if the writer spent some time crafting not just the plot but also the style. That’s one of the reasons I can really enjoy short stories, the creation of them needs to have the exposition of them fit much into less space. The sentences need to be crafted to express as much information and feeling as possible. They often need to be written and re-written more than once so as to achieve this.
As I said, I prefer to read that that has been carefully thought through and does not waste time. I want to feel “full” when I read and when I am done reading.
Sometimes I feel as if the writer thinks I am incredibly stupid or that I’ll put up with reading almost anything.
I do sometimes have to put up with crap because I read a lot and I can’t always find enough of the good stuff to see me through. I also re-read for the same reason, if it was good the first time it will probably be good again.
Though I do wish I knew how to find good writing more easily, it seems sometimes I find it by accidentally stumbling over it, as I did this time. It also means that I read a fair bit of nonfiction. I read for the information and hopefully the quality of the writing. I also enjoy reading books written quite a bit before the present. The books that have survived time generally did so because they were well written.
I like spare writing and also the thicker writing that was the style of past writers.
I have already written too much and not as precisely as I could have wished.
Enjoy this volume.
