I went into this audiobook with only a little bit of familiarity with this particular O.J. Simpson trial. I thought this book was a good look at what goes on behind the curtain of a police investigation for better and worse.

I thought the author was open, honest and told his story in an entertaining way. I walked away from listening to this book finding myself really liking Andy Caldwell.

One reason for that was the warmth that Mark Kamish brought to the performance. A previous reviewer said that they felt like they were listening to the author and that’s a great way to describe it. The pace is deliberate and some might wish it were a bit faster but to me it felt genuine. The pace did pick up when Mark was reading the transcript of what went on during the robbery and people were speaking quickly.

Another nice touch was the way that actual audio from the room recording as well as audio from the reading of the verdict was mixed in to the track. We heard the narrator read a transcript of the recording from the room but then heard the actual recording. I thought that the mixing of the audio from the reading of the verdict was done exceptionally well. I would definitely listen to more by Mark Kamish in the future.

I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for a free review. The fact that it was free did not have any impact on my feelings about the audiobook.
